  • “I liked being able to take ownership over a project and finish a tangible output that can aid in conservation. It was valuable for me to learn about the range of other things that go into Audubon’s conservation work, especially shadowing multiple staff scientists.”

  • “My carpentry experience at VYCC led to what I am doing now. It was like taking two semesters of school in carpentry. The emphasis on learning meant that I could get a feel for every part of the building process and enter the workforce as a not-so-green carpenter. I’m using what I learned with the Pro Build crew every day.”

  • “VYCC was the first time in my professional life that I’ve felt intellectually and physically stimulated on a regular basis. Farming education feels really right for me! I feel gratitude for all of you and the support you provided me with. I had such a positive and informative experience.”

  • “SLE has created opportunity and possibility at the intersection of Vermont’s greatest challenges - building a workforce, ensuring safe housing for all, and tackling climate change. They offer practical skills and a community of peers that is often unavailable to or hard to access by disconnected and disenfranchised Vermonters.”

Kesha Ram Hinsdale, Vermont State Senator
Chair, Senate Economic Development, Housing & General Affairs Committee

  • “Through our partnership with Serve Learn Earn we are building a dynamic workforce with the skills that will help us achieve our environmental and climate-related goals in Vermont. It’s a smart investment for the state to support training young people in the field of conservation”

    Danielle Fitzko, Commissioner
Vermont Agency of Natural Resources | Dept. of Forests, Parks and Recreation

  • “I’m going to be getting ready to finish up YouthBuild and figure out what’s next by taking the life skills we’ve learned from this program and taking them on to the next step in life. I’ve learned to just keep showing up”

  • “In addition to all the technical skills I learned, the support from Missy, the mentors, and especially the classmates was incredible. Without Trailblazers, I’m not certain I would have made a successful entry into the construction world.”
